May 1 Principal's Memo
Dear Parents,Thank you to everyone that came to support our 8th grade Car Wash. The students earned $800 that will be used to help redecorate the Alhambra Police Department Children's Room.
Tomorrow is our Virtue of the Month Assembly at 8:00 am. We are awarding certificates to the students that demonstrated "Perseverance" for March and "Responsibility" for April.
The All School Mass date has changed. We were unable to have our First Friday Mass on the 2nd because our upper grade girls are attending the "Ramona Challenge" on Friday. This is an academic event for our girls.
Our May Crowning is held during our May School Mass. It is rescheduled for next Friday, May 9th. Please join us at 10:45 for this celebration.
The date for our school play has also changed to May 28th and May 29th. The students have been working very hard to make this a very entertaining performance. The play will begin at 7:00pm. A donation of a teddy bear for the Alhambra Police Department or a $5.00 donation is requested for the performance.
This Saturday is the Saint Therese First Communion for our Parish. Our 2nd graders will be celebrating the event at their traditional First Communion Breakfast on Monday morning. Please keep these children in your prayers as
they celebrate their First Communion.
We want to thank Mrs. Lawson, Mrs. Lara and Mrs.Herrera for preparing our students for this Sacrament. Our First and Second Grade Religion curriculum prepares our children for their First Communion. Thank you to all of the 2nd grade parents that supported their students by attending the First Communion parent meetings.
Monday, May 5th, is also the 7th grade fundaiser "Cinco de Mayo" lunch. Thank you for supporting the students when they have their special fundraisers.
The student store is a nice addition for our school. The students are using their Math skills when they purchase their snack items. Their Oral Language skills are reinforced as they choose the different items. The milk is a great addition for the school and the 25 cent "frozen fruit juice" is affordable enough for everyone to enjoy the store.
I would like to use the money that has been earned by the store to purchase the National Geographic monthly Science newspapers for the classrooms. Thank you for supporting this great fundraiser. As you know, the money that we earn in any fundraiser is used for educational materials for your children.
I was on the internet and noticed that the various local schools are listed and ranked on different websites. The sites are used by people that are "school shopping". I was happy to see Saint Therese School listed on one site that claimed we were one of the top 100 local schools. It is hard to say who is ranking our school. All I know is that a few people have taken their time to rank our school. Needless to say, the only way our school can rank higher or lower is by the public adding their input. How vulnerable we all are when the internet has our fate in its hands. ( and yes, I did add my A+ opinion of our school )
Our yearbook is a "limited edition" Yearbook. It doesn't make financial sense to order a large amount of yearbooks and hope that they might sell. We still have a chance to add additional copies to our order. Please see Jeannette in our school office if you are interested in purchasing a 2008 yearbook.
It is hard to believe that we are in the month of May! Although we are at the end of the school year, we still need to be aware of our school uniform guidelines. Shoes need to be tied or strapped on to the foot. Slip on shoes are not uniform shoes. Jewelry is not to be worn with the school uniform. Hair needs to be trimmed and out of the eyes. Our faculty is concerned and so are our parents. The Saint Therese School uniform should be worn with pride.
It is hard to believe that we are in the Month of May! Enjoy the rest of the school year.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Buckowski
